Chest of drawers Provencal slightly sighting your crossbow in walnut molded opening by three rows of drawers .Top tray walnut-bec de corbin .Work of the end of the 18th century .123 / 60 / 94 cmLes styles owe much to the history and / or geography. Pursuant to the rule, than the furniture of provence is influenced by Italian designs, those of Genoa in particular, whose furniture have exported their copies, pastiches of the carpenters and cabinetmakers of Provence, fustiers. As early as the Renaissance, the styles of the parisians are required - with a shift in time - in the workshops of the artisans of Marseilles, Aix, Arles, Beaucaire, Avignon or Forcalquier. The spirit of Provence is fully expressed in the Eighteenth century with the styles of Regency and Louis XV. The movement rococo owes much to the artists of the Midi, and more particularly to a pupil of the sculptor from marseille, Pierre Puget, Bernard Toro, who published in 1716 a collection of drawings where the triumph of the curves and carvings found in the provencal furniture in general and more particularly on major consoles pageantry. The typical style of provence was born in Arles, and then spreads throughout the province. It is divided into two main streams : the floral style and the style, said Fourques, the second taking its name from a town near Arles. Sculpture fine and dense to the base of the plant elements (leaves, flowers and twigs) characterize the floral style. The olive branch is often preferred to the acanthus leaf ; ubiquitous, the famous shell rock, sometimes with patterns of atrial reminiscent of the meanderings of the human ear. Often, the elements are perforated like the bottom rails of the cabinets, consoles or dressers. More discreet, the style of Fourques is characterized by sculptures or hollow castings, linear, ending in loops which are wound in ram's horn, or in the form of a shell : the spiral decoration. From the end of the Eighteenth century, the elements of style Louis XVI - ears of wheat, clusters of fruit, bowl, recalling the urn, antique, drapery - cover structures and forms of furniture Louis XV. The two styles coexisted throughout the Nineteenth century. Another characteristic of the provencal furniture, the candlestick (name arlesian), the tufts or tongs (names given in Avignon), small sculptures or turned parts in the shape of the plume, ordered an acorn or an olive, that crown the top and the angles of the panetières and the upper part of the amounts of seats. If the furniture inlaid and painted are relatively rare, with the exception of the offices of Uzès, which can be arbitrarily attached to the provencal style, the pieces in natural wood do not miss. The Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries, and more rarely the Seventeenth century, there is a strong interest from fans who appreciate the density and the quality of the sculptures.
