HERBO Fernand ( 1905 / 1995 )Honfleur and its port.Oil on canvas signed lower left.60 x 81 cmFernand HERBO, Born march 18, 1905 in Orchies / Died August 21, 1995 (age 90).Fernand Herbo is a painter of Montmartre established in Honfleur ( Calvados ), was born in Orchies in 1905, and died at Honfleur in 1995.In his youth in Montmartre, Fernand Herbo performs posters, theater sets and cinema, and rank alongside the painters Maurice de Vlaminck and Othon Friesz.In 1938, Herbo left Paris and settled permanently in Honfleur. His work, a strong footprint and dark colors, dedicated to the sea, boats and harbours, led to him being appointed painter to the French Navy in 1944. It is from this date that will be affixed to his signature the anchor of traditional Painters of the Navy.In 1945, the State acquired his work The quai de Jemmapes (1942), and assigns it to the national museum of modern art at the Centre Georges-Pompidou.In the early 1950s, Fernand Herbo made the acquaintance of the gallery owner and poet French Katia Granoff, who exposes in his new gallery in Honfleur.
